## [Unreleased]

## [0.42.1] - 2026-09-28

- Repeating a line in practice starts a little earlier and ends a little later, so short lines no longer lose their first or last word
- The player fits small phones: clear of the camera cutout, a one-line title, tighter buttons, and no Settings gear (Settings stays under More)
- Other videos opens with a tap
- Practice comes before Interactive, with a speaker and a question-mark icon, on the TV and on phones
- The library button reads Save with a plus, or Saved with a check
- On a phone, subtitles start at 80 % until you choose a size

## [0.42.0] - 2026-09-27

- Sombra works on phones: the same APK draws a phone interface on a device that is not a TV, with a bottom bar (Home, Search, Library, Downloads, More), touch pages for Home, Search and a title, and the other pages laid out for a narrow screen. Settings › Interface chooses Automatic, TV or Phone
- On a phone the player turns sideways; a tap shows the controls, a double tap seeks ten seconds, and the progress bar can be dragged
- Play on the TV: from a phone's player, the same title, episode and position open in Sombra on the TV, which finds its own sources; the TV's address and code go under Settings › Interface
- On mobile data, a phone asks before sources start downloading, and keeps smaller defaults (2 GB cache, torrents stop when the player closes)
- A title opened from a link shows its name on Sources and in the player
- Fixed a crash when the app closed while previews were loading
- Texts that said "this TV" now say "this device"

## [0.41.0] - 2026-09-27

- A gear in the player opens Settings over the video: it pauses, the torrent keeps downloading, and Back returns to where you were
- Picking a source the race had already started opens the player on what it fetched, and the loading line says how much is already downloaded instead of "looking for peers"
- Voice search listens inside the app: the microphone pulses with your voice, shows what it understood, tells you to hold the remote's microphone button when it hears nothing, and explains errors with Try again or the TV's own voice search
- The detail page names the director and cast under the story; suggestions are smaller and sit lower
- Updates show how far their download is, in Settings and on the rail
- On a TV set to a larger display size, Home's hero is compact, so nothing is cut at the top

## [0.40.0] - 2026-09-27

- The first launch asks you to accept the terms of use: Sombra hosts no content, you answer for what you watch, and your data stays on the TV. The full terms are under Settings › About and on the download page
- Torrentio is no longer installed on first launch. When a title has no source, Sources offers the community add-ons that work without setup, each after a dialog that explains its risks; installations that already have Torrentio keep it
- The app opens by pressing its play button: the mark shows at once, its shadow appears, the button is pressed with a ripple and springs back, and the name rises
- Moving between titles no longer lags: the rail's state no longer redraws the whole app, and the rail slides away on Home's rows and comes back with Left
- The rail is slimmer, with a larger mark and the name when open; the focused card grows a little; Home names the director and cast under the story
- Practice cuts sentences at speakers, at sentence ends inside a line and across ellipses, drops sound notes and speaker labels, stops exactly at the sentence's end, and shows the other language for the whole sentence; the panel says where the sentence sits and shows only the words worth learning
- Settings: the Interactive tab loses its duplicate title and purple slider, the Add-ons tab goes (the rail reaches it), and About shows the terms
- No player controls over the loading screen; the Testing chip in Sources marks only the race's torrents
- The download page has new screenshots, a gallery and up-to-date descriptions

## [0.39.0] - 2026-09-27

- The app is now called Sombra, after shadowing, the practice of repeating in the shadow of what you hear. It installs as a new app (tv.sombra) beside the old Interactio, which can be uninstalled; settings, library and progress start empty
- A flat new mark, a white play triangle with a coral shadow, on the icon, the TV banner and the download page; the colours of the app, the monitor and the page follow it
- The mark shows the moment the app opens, and the launch animation slides its shadow out and fades into Home
- The rail is slimmer, with smaller icons, and slides away while you browse titles; Left brings it back
- The focused card grows a little
- Home names the director and cast under the story instead of on a side panel

## [0.38.3] - 2026-09-26

- The launch animation moves: stars drift past in three layers, the comet has an ion tail and a dust tail and sheds sparks, and the impact shakes the view, runs a shock wave along the atmosphere and throws up debris before the mark rises out of the flash
- A new icon and TV banner: a rounded play mark ringed by an orbit with a comet, over deep space, no longer cut off by the launcher's round mask

## [0.38.2] - 2026-09-26

- The launch animation is a comet striking the Earth; the flash of the impact becomes the mark and the name. It now always plays in full on slow TVs, where the previous one ended before it was seen
- The row under the player's controls is called Other videos

## [0.38.1] - 2026-09-26

- A drawer in the player (Interactive, Subtitles, Episodes) now lies over the controls instead of squeezing them into each other
- The Subtitles drawer has two tabs: Language (main, second, delay) and Style (position, size, color, background); color can now be changed from the player

## [0.38.0] - 2026-09-26

- The app opens with a short animation of its mark and name, and fades into Home while the catalogue loads
- The title page is laid out like Disney+: the logo, badges, facts and synopsis over the backdrop, Play with an icon ("Ver ahora" in Spanish), Trailer and My list as round buttons, and tabs below for Episodes, Suggestions (titles of the same genre) and Details (director, cast, genres, release, runtime, rating, add-on)
- While sources are tested, a panel says for how long, how many are ready, downloading a test, looking for peers or sent nothing, and what happens next; each card in the test shows its own state

## [0.37.2] - 2026-09-26

- A film no longer breaks seconds after it starts with "the video data is damaged": the cleanup added in 0.37.0 could delete the file being played when the engine was slow to answer, and it is gone; leftovers are cleared after ten minutes and when the player closes, as before

## [0.37.1] - 2026-09-26

- Home's rails are back: Cinemeta's catalogs fail or answer slowly at times, so a failed catalog is tried again and otherwise shows the last copy kept, up to a week old
- Explore shows only titles of the year and genre chosen; catalogs that filter loosely no longer slip in films from other years
- A page that fails to load no longer ends Explore's list early; the next scroll tries again

## [0.37.0] - 2026-09-26

- The player's controls are laid out like YouTube's: Episodes, Interactive and Practice as labelled buttons on the left, a large Play between rewind, forward and the episode arrows in the middle, and subtitles, audio, speed, aspect, statistics and close on the right; every control the old row had is still there
- With the controls up or the video paused, the picture dims and the title, episode and source show large at the top left
- Down from the controls opens a row under them: the season's episodes for a series, or the best rated films of the same genre for a film
- The progress bar is split at the intro and the credits, and the clock names the part playing
- With previews off, Home no longer starts torrents in the background
- Once the chosen source shows its first frame, what the other sources in the race downloaded is cleared at once instead of ten minutes later

## [0.36.0] - 2026-09-26

- The LAN monitor is rebuilt for phones: a top bar, one column of cards and the sections in a bar at the bottom; on a wide screen, tabs and a grid; nothing scrolls sideways, the log fills the screen, and the cache card can clear the cache
- Text fields no longer open the keyboard when the remote passes over them: OK starts typing, the arrows move on
- Search's Explore is laid out like Settings: kind, order, genre, year and actor in a column on the left, each opening its choices in a side panel, and the titles in a grid on the right
- Home's director and cast sit on a dark panel and read on any backdrop
- The monitor tells browsers not to keep old pages, so a phone shows the dashboard of the version installed

## [0.35.0] - 2026-09-26

- QR codes: Settings › Diagnostics shows one that opens the LAN monitor on a phone already signed in, and the player's Ask tab one that pairs the assistant (poll_companion.py takes the link it holds)
- Settings has an About tab with the update card, what is new in each version and the libraries the app ships
- Updates arrive by themselves again: the app checks when it comes back to the front, every three hours and after a video, never during playback; it used to check only at start, and a TV keeps it running for days
- Home moves smoothly: the backdrop crossfades instead of flashing, the hero's words and cast fade, cards fade their focus, and a new season's episodes slide into place
- Faster on a busy 32-bit TV: the player asks the torrent engine for numbers a third as often, and not at all for a file played from disk
- Requires Android 7 or later (torrents already needed it)

## [0.34.1] - 2026-09-26

- Language practice works on whole sentences instead of subtitle lines, which often split one: Repeat, Previous, Next, Save and the second-language line all take the sentence
- The practice drawer's controls stay at the bottom, so they no longer move when the sentence changes
- Download leftovers clear themselves: race leftovers after ten minutes, unfinished downloads an hour after you leave them

## [0.34.0] - 2026-09-25

- Search: with nothing typed, Explore lists movies, series or anime, best rated first (or popular, or new), by genre, year and actor, in a poster grid with ratings that keeps loading as you scroll

## [0.33.0] - 2026-09-25

- Sources are ranked by one 0-100 score, shown on each card as "#1 · 84": peers weigh most, then how often and how fast a source started before, continuity with the previous episode, quality and size, and whether the file fits the free space; the source that played last no longer jumps the queue, and the log says why autoplay picked one
- Sources that open another app (Netflix, Crunchyroll) score 0 and never start by themselves; Play the fastest only races torrents
- Downloads has two tabs: Complete, which plays at once, and Leftovers, marked for deletion; anything unfinished for a day is removed by itself

## [0.32.0] - 2026-09-25

- Interactive: the player's question panel opens on an Ask tab that shows what a question needs (mode on, companion connected, episode context, a question ready), says what is missing, and asks now once one is ready; Settings is the second tab
- Subtitles: text size (80 to 150 %) and box opacity (none to 100 %) step from the player's subtitles drawer and are kept
- Language practice: the drawer follows the line on screen while the video plays and has play/pause instead of Continue
- Previous and next episode sit with the play controls
- Downloads: every entry opens; partial downloads resume through their torrent and unidentified files play under their own name
- Home: the hero shows the cast and director, faded on the right

## [0.31.0] - 2026-09-25

- Downloads: a new page beside Library lists what is on the TV, newest first; complete episodes and films play at once with no sources and no waiting, and every entry, partial ones included, has its own Delete, with the space used and free and a Clear all
- The torrent cache stays within its limit: a collector removes partial copies of anything already complete and, when over the limit, the oldest entries first (the old eviction never found anything to remove)

## [0.30.4] - 2026-09-25

- A fully downloaded episode or film plays from its file: no engine, no peers, instant seeks; one that finishes while playing switches to the file when it gets stuck
- Play opens an already downloaded episode or film at once, without the sources list
- Subtitles no longer show behind the loading and error screens

## [0.30.3] - 2026-09-25

- Language practice: the player's Repeat opens the practice drawer on the line just heard; the drawer has one row of icons (previous, repeat, next, save, continue), Back closes it, the player's controls hide behind it, and a repeated line runs 0.7 s past its end so the last word is not cut
- Italic, bold and underlined subtitle lines render as such instead of showing their tags
- Loading: the status and advice move to the footer, and the step under way slides back and forth
- Statistics lists every torrent the engine holds; a paused video shows the app's version in a corner; Interactive has a question-mark icon
- The LAN monitor can clear the torrent cache (POST /cache/clear)

## [0.30.2] - 2026-09-25

- Loading shows its steps (Engine, Peers, Download, Video) instead of bouncing dots, with the OK hint in the footer
- A torrent gets four minutes to start again; 0.30.1 gave up after 90 s on a healthy one
- The live log's waiting line says what it waits for, and the engine's numbers repeat less often

## [0.30.1] - 2026-09-25

- A video that cannot continue no longer spins forever: unreadable data and stalls end on a clear message, the watchdog also covers stalls mid-episode, and "Try the next source" resumes where playback stopped
- The loading screen shows the show and the episode over its thumbnail with one short status; OK shows the source details
- The live log reads in plain units (GB, MB/s, 2 min 46 s, 7:56) with real error names and hints for the torrent engine
- The torrent cache stays under half of the TV's free space
- Torrent status is translated, the buffer shows what is loaded ahead, and the player's controls fit on one row

## [0.30.0] - 2026-09-25

- Interactive mode: optional four-choice questions about what you just watched, paired with a companion on the home network; off by default, turned on from the player for one video or from Settings for every video
- Language practice steps through lines: Previous line, Repeat and Next line each play one line and pause, the panel stays on that line, and the second-language line follows it
- Repeat right after a line ends replays that line instead of the one just starting
- The live log marks failures as ERROR lines with their cause and a hint (timeouts, network, TLS), including every playback retry, and shows them in red
- The player's Statistics panel shows the LAN monitor address and code, so a phone or computer can follow what is happening

## [0.29.2] - 2026-09-25

- Spacing, corner radii and text sizes follow one scale across every screen; a few gaps and labels shift by a pixel or two
- Internal: the two largest source files are split by screen, their state moves into small classes, stale comments are corrected and every file follows one formatter

## [0.29.1] - 2026-09-25

- Built on newer Android tooling and libraries (Kotlin 2.4, Room 2.8, Media3 1.11, Compose 2026.09); no visible changes, library credits updated
- Internal cleanup: unused code and strings removed, shared helpers for network requests, settings and labels, typed settings for sort, quality and subtitle style

## [0.29.0] - 2026-09-25

- Details resumes where you left off (or offers the next episode) and episode cards show progress and a watched mark
- Faster start for torrents: the player fetches the end of the file, where the seek index lives, right away
- The torrent cache is trimmed torrent by torrent, so an update no longer wipes what was already downloaded
- Learn's vocabulary keeps accents and leaves out each language's function words (lists from the Snowball project); the old, broken non-English words are cleared once
- Watched time now counts only what actually played
- Player fixes: statistics in your language, practice buttons that fit, the Episodes list opens on the current episode, subtitle panels no longer hide the subtitle, languages listed with yours first, and the control hint follows Play and Pause
- Search lands on the first result; the add-on URL field has its own hint; the emulator's demo card no longer shows on real TVs
- The LAN monitor starts with the app and keeps its code, with a web dashboard at its address to follow the log, see and drive the screen, inspect the torrent engine and browse the learning deck; new links open pages, searches and titles directly

## [0.28.5] - 2026-09-25

- Videos start much sooner on slower TVs: the player asks for the video first and no longer gives up on a torrent that is still downloading
- On 32-bit TVs, source races try two torrents at a time and Home scene previews start off (they can be turned on in Settings)

## [0.28.4] - 2026-09-24

- Rewinding within 30 seconds plays from memory instead of asking the torrent again
- Coming back to a title starts the source it last played from right away, without racing the others
- The LAN monitor reports the Home preview, logs every setting and add-on change, and can adjust the torrent engine's connections and speed while a video plays

## [0.28.3] - 2026-09-24

- Search puts the titles that match what you typed first
- Sources names the episode (S1E6) instead of showing its id
- Settings switches and sliders announce their name and state to screen readers
- The LAN monitor can read the screen as a list of elements, press them by name, query the torrent engine and report the page, player, update, settings and add-ons; the log now covers every page, key press, add-on answer and torrent stats, to the millisecond

## [0.28.2] - 2026-09-24

- Settings › Diagnostics › LAN monitor lets a computer on the same network follow the app's log, see its screen and press remote keys, with a code shown on the TV
- The log records each step of loading a video and whether the torrent engine started, to find why a video does not play

## [0.28.1] - 2026-09-24

- Torrentio is back if you removed it before, and from now on it can only be turned off, not removed
- Add-ons can be turned off and back on instead of only removed; built-in ones like Torrentio and Anime Kitsu can only be turned off
- Pressing OK on an add-on no longer removes or turns it off; Disable, Enable and Remove are their own buttons
- An add-on added as a shortcut, like Peerflix, no longer shows up twice in the list

## [0.28.0] - 2026-09-24

- The player has a Previous episode button, and the remote's Previous key plays it
- Audio tracks the TV cannot decode are marked as not supported; the audio language you pick carries over to the next episode
- Settings shows one row per setting with a dropdown, slider or switch on the right
- New Preferred quality setting (720p by default); Sources groups streams by quality with that one first
- Optional blur for pictures of episodes you have not watched yet
- Add-ons offers MediaFusion, StremThru Torz, TorrentsDB and Peerflix as opt-in shortcuts, and says which need a debrid account
